He is Our Peace
For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace....
Ephesians 2:14-15
Paul declared Christ is our peace. Christ has torn down the middle wall of separation between God and man––making us one. The way of our salvation is through Christ. In sincere repentance, a sinner can be saved.
When Paul spoke about the middle wall of separation, he spoke about the wall that separated the Gentiles in an outer court of the Jewish temple. The temple was the place where animal sacrifices were carried out, as well as worship, according to the Law of Moses. A person could be stoned to death if they approached the inner court––the Holy of Holies.
Within the inner temple hung a thick curtain. It was about 60 feet high and about 4 inches thick. The veil separated men from the Holy of Holies. This signified that man was separated from God by sin (Isaiah 59:1-2). Only the high priest was permitted to pass behind this veil once each year (Exodus 30:10; Hebrews 9:7) to enter into God’s presence for all of Israel and to make atonement for their sins (Leviticus 16).
When Christ died on the Cross, ... the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom... (Matthew 27:51-52). This signified that the way to enter into God’s holy presence was now open for all people––both Jews and Gentiles. Incredibly, Hebrews 9:24 tells us: For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us....
Jesus is our peace. Salvation is now made available for all people. All because of God’s grace, people can have a relationship with God through Christ. If you do not have peace with God, know that Jesus can be your peace today.
I am ready to meet God face to face tonight and look into those eyes of infinite holiness, for all my sins are covered by the atoning blood.
