Mother’s Day

...forsake not your mother's teaching....
Proverbs 1:8 ESV

Most mothers live sacrificial lives. From dawn to dusk they prioritize the needs of their household above their own wants: She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness (Proverbs 31:27). More than ever, mothers are having to work to make ends meet. Out of necessity, they are coming alongside their husbands to help provide. It is awesome if a mother can stay home and take care of her home and children, but unfortunately, this is not always the case. Mothers, these days, are relying on the strength of the Lord to do both.

Never forget the sacrifices your mother has made to try to ensure a better future for your life. No mother is perfect, but she has loved you like no other. Did you know that even if you are married, an adult at college, or you have left home to live on your own, she never stops caring about you. She still prays for God’s best for your life. Mothers have their children’s best interests at heart, no matter how old they become.

Do you have a God-fearing mother who has taught you God’s ways? If so, then honor her. Over the years, she has diligently poured into your life the wonderful treasures of God’s Word. Do not forsake her teachings. Her godly influence has led you on a path to know God and His salvation. She has marked a straight path for you to follow. Will you choose to walk that path? In context, the Apostle John spoke these words to his children who he had begotten in the Christian faith: I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth (3 John 4). This Scripture also expresses a mother’s deep desire to see her children walk in the truth of God’s Word.  There is nothing more important to her.

This Mother’s Day, reflect on your mother’s teachings. In appreciation for her love and dedication, bless her and show her how much she is loved. If your mother is not a believer, still honor her. If forgiveness is needed to restore your relationship with your mother, ask the Lord to help you so that, through your loving example, she, too, may come to know Christ.

Never could it be possible for any man to estimate what he owes to a godly mother.
