Prayers of Thanksgiving
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.
1 Timothy 2:1-2
Within these verses, we find different types of prayer, such as: supplications––humbly asking God for something, and intercessions––prayerfully intervening on behalf of someone else. Our general prayers are addressed to God. He answers our prayers! Notice, prayers is plural so it also implies that you can come repeatedly before the Lord to worship, adore, and reverence Him.
Giving thanks is another type of prayer. Have you ever sat down before the Lord just to give Him thanks? We all tend to come before the Lord with all our needs, and there is nothing wrong with that, but prayers of thanksgiving exalt Him. How many people do you know who go through the day with something on their lips to complain about? If you are a complainer, stop, because you have so much to be thankful for. Thankfulness will give you a whole new attitude and perspective in life.
Thank God for your very breath! Imagine, you do not have to think about breathing. God holds your very breath in His hand (Daniel 5:23). Thank Him for your spouse and children. Look around you. What have you been blessed with? Do you have a job, home, clothes, and a car? All these things are from the Lord. Each and every day He supplies all your needs.
Give thanks to God for your salvation, for the hope of heaven, and for eternal life. Express your gratitude in prayer for His great love, mercy and grace toward you. Spiritually speaking, we are super rich in Jesus Christ. So live each day with a thankful heart.
Thanks be to God, there is hope to-day; this very hour you can choose Him and serve Him.
