Sink or Swim!
And as day was about to dawn, Paul implored them all to take food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day you have waited and continued without food, and eaten nothing. Therefore I urge you to take nourishment, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the head of any of you.”
Acts 27:33-34
The men had not eaten; they had been so seasick and fearful. As the day was about to dawn, Paul urged them to eat, saying, “I know you do not really want to eat, but if you want to survive––eat!” This was a sink-or- swim moment! Paul already knew what would happen. He knew the men would need physical strength to swim to shore once the ship broke apart, or they would go down with the ship!
God had told Paul the ship would be lost, but not the lives of the men––not a hair would fall from the head of any of them. He encouraged the fearful; once again, he reminded them of God’s comforting words. The Lord had promised no life would be lost. The long, treacherous trial they were enduring was soon to be over. All they needed to do was to trust in the God that Paul proclaimed––trust in His Word––His promises.
Have you ever been in a sink-or-swim moment? In the workplace, do you find yourself drowning in paperwork? As a mother, are you drowning in laundry and your everyday housework? As a father, are you drowning in bills while trying to provide for your family? God can strengthen you to swim and keep your head above water! He will strengthen you by His Words of encouragement and by His promises.
Spend time alone with God in the Word and in prayer. Allow Him to speak to your heart. Be encouraged and move forward in the plan He has for your life.
Let your cares drive you to God. I shall not mind if you have many of them if each one leads you to prayer. If every fret makes you lean more on the Beloved, it will be a benefit.
