The Saving of the Soul

But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
Hebrews 10:39

What does draw back to perdition mean? Basically, draw back to perdition means “to go back to a life of practicing sin.” The word perdition is a strong word, as it speaks of a looming “judgment and damnation.” Seriously, God has no pleasure in those who turn away from the faith to perdition. He has no pleasure in them at all (Hebrews 10:38).

Faithful Christians are not of those who draw back to perdition––people who have left the faith and who now face God’s judgment. Our identity is with those believers in Christ who are steadfast to the saving of the soul. That is what is at stake––our souls––eternity.

Therefore, Christians must put off their old life and put on their new life in Christ. This is what is instructed in Colossians 3:9-10: ... you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him. Do you know what else we need to do? We need to hang on to Jesus. How do we do this? In Colossians 3:2-3, we are instructed: Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Hebrews 10:39 is a warning to believers not to turn away from Jesus Christ. Make sure you are still seeking Him. Are you looking toward eternity? Are you ready to meet Jesus Christ? If not, repent of your sin and ask Jesus to come back into your life. It will renew the hope you once had:

1 John 3:2-3: Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.  And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

Keep looking to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith!

Christ wants to give you hope for the future.... When you come to Christ, God gives you eternal life––which begins right now as you open your heart to Him.
