In God’s Hands
“At this time Moses was born, and was well pleasing to God; and he was brought up in his father’s house for three months. But when he was set out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him away and brought him up as her own son. And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds.”
Acts 7:20-22
Stephen was still laying a historical foundation of the nation of Israel before he would come to the point of his sermon. He had reached the period when Moses was born. Pharaoh had commanded the people to kill all the baby boys by drowning them in the River Nile. Jochebed, his mother, hid him for three months, but when she was unable to conceal him anymore, by faith, she put him in a little basket and placed him by the bank of the River (Exodus 2:1-3). A mother released her child into a place of grave danger, knowing and trusting he was in the Lord’s hands. God’s hand was upon the child. At the right time and at the right place, Pharaoh’s daughter was bathing:
And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it. And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, this is one of the Hebrews' children (Exodus 2:5-6 KJV).
Moses was safe. It is fascinating how God rewarded Jochebed’s faith. In another turn of events, she was chosen to nurse Moses:
Then his sister [Miriam] said to Pharaoh's daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?” And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, “Go.” So the maiden went and called the child's mother (Exodus 2:7-8).
Moses would become the leader of the nation of Israel, but that was not known to anyone yet. I believe, there are no coincidences with God. No matter how young or how old you are, our lives are in God’s hands.
My times are in your hands… Psalm 31:15.
The great truth of this one verse is this … that all that concerns the believer is in the hands of Almighty God.
