Are You Rooted and Grounded in Christ?

...that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:17-19

It is interesting that most people who became infected by false doctrines in the church of Ephesus were not rooted and grounded in God's Word. They did not know the mind of God, because they did not know the Word of God. There is such a danger of deception for believers who do not really know the Scriptures.

The Apostle Peter knew the wisdom of being grounded in the Word of God. It keeps you from deception:

You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:17-18).

Take Peter’s further advice: ...desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby... (1 Peter 2:2). I also think it is very important to clarify the concept of knowing God. When you accept Jesus Christ, you know Him as your Savior, but you also need to know Him as Lord of your life. For some this happens quickly; for others during their spiritual growth. Immerse yourself in God’s Word and you will know Him as Lord.

Do you have a daily, private time set aside for prayer and to be in God’s Word? It is very important. You see, when someone knocks on your door or comes to you proclaiming another Jesus, you will immediately notice the error. Know the Jesus of the Bible. He is God––Deity! Study biblical doctrine––justification, sanctification and glorification––so that you are not deceived. There is a book I have written that explains the different biblical doctrines in a simple way to help you––Doctrines: A Simplified Road Map of Biblical Truth.

The conviction that Christian doctrine matters for Christian living is one of the most important growth points of the Christian life.
