Palm Sunday

The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!”
John 12:12-13

What is the significance of Palm Sunday? Bible Hub, an online Bible resource, gives us some insight:

...in ancient times, palm branches were symbols of victory, triumph, peace, and eternal life. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week and signifies the recognition of Jesus as the Messiah and King.

Palm branches were waved for this reason when Jesus entered Jerusalem. A great multitude had come to the Passover Feast. They became excited. Why? They heard that Jesus was coming, their King! They rushed to meet the One who would save them from their enemies. They took branches of palm trees with them. Some waved the branches, while others laid them on the ground before Him.

The people shouted, “Hosanna!” The word hosanna means “save now!” What was going on in the lives of the people? They were experiencing cruel oppression. The Romans occupied Israel, and the people yearned for freedom. They had placed all their hopes on the One who entered Jerusalem, riding on a donkey, to deliver them from their enemies.

Therefore, they cried out loudly to Jesus: “The King of Israel!” The crowds acknowledged Him as King. For now, praise, worship and adoration were heard in the streets of Jerusalem. The people rejoiced to see their King.

This Palm Sunday, worship Your King, knowing that He came from heaven to earth to save you! I pray that your hope will always be firmly placed in Jesus Christ.

The hope we have in Christ is an absolute certainty.
