God’s Peace Rules

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Colossians 3:15

Why is it that some people have no peace? Could it be they are struggling with the sin of unforgiveness? It is hard to experience the peace of God when you are at war with someone else. Humble obedience to God’s Word in the area of forgiveness will bring the forgiver peace––no matter if it is received or not by the offended person. Why? The one who forgives has peace with God. They know that they have done what is right in the eyes of God (Matthew 6:14-15).

People may have no peace if they remain troubled over their sins. Either they have failed to believe what God has said in His Word about forgiveness, which states: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9), or it could be they are lacking an assurance due to an absence of true repentance. When there is no real repentance, Satan comes in like a flood with terrible condemnation.

Condemnation is not of the Lord––that is always the work of Satan. Conviction is the work of the Holy Spirit. He convicts us of sin and draws us to the Cross of Jesus Christ. There we find refuge, because it is through the blood of Jesus Christ that our sins are forgiven. Christians who have truly repented of their sins must stand on Romans 8:1: There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

God will never remind you of your past sins; He will never bring them up again. Take hold of this promise about His forgiveness: As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he [God] removed our transgressions from us (Psalm 103:12 KJV). If you do, you will have the peace of God ruling in your heart.

The peace of God means being grateful for his past mercies, conscious of his present mercies, and certain of his future mercies.
