A Great Revival

Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. And there was great joy in that city.
Acts 8:4-8

Under great persecution, Christians did not give up their faith. They went out and proclaimed the Gospel in other areas. Philip the evangelist went to the city of Samaria to preach Christ. Who were the Samaritans? Their history goes back to approximately 721 BC. In judgment, God allowed the Assyrians to invade the Northern Kingdom of Israel because of their idolatry.

Many Jews were either killed or taken into captivity. Yet the Assyrians allowed a remnant of Jews to stay behind in the land of Judea. During this time, the Jews intermarried with the Assyrians. Their children were half Jewish and half Assyrian. They were called Samaritans. Those who were fully Jews did not accept them. They hated each other. Philip went to this rejected group of people.

Through the preaching of God’s Word, a great revival began. Miracles happened. Demons came out of people who were possessed. They were completely delivered and set free! Others were healed of their infirmities.

Our duty as Christians is to preach the Gospel so people turn away from the darkness. We are children of the light (Ephesians 5:8). We are to be witnesses of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others. When people ask you for counsel, give them the Word of God. Give a full account of your testimony. Let them know how accepting Jesus to become a Christian has transformed your life. When you give them the Word of God, they can come to the knowledge of the truth.

God empowers and anoints you to share the Gospel with the lost.

We can preach the Gospel of Christ no further than we have experienced the power of it in our own hearts.
