Rooted and Built Up in Christ
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:6-7
Paul cultivated a habit of praying for the Colossians, as he heard about their problems and situations physically, emotionally and financially. Christians are knit together in the Lord––especially through prayer. Pray, pray, pray!
Then Paul exhorted the Colossian believers, as if to say, “Now that you have received Christ and are saved, walk as a saved person, not as a non-believer. Let your walk in Christ be seen in your conduct.” I believe, there are a lot of inconsistences in the lives of many believers. What they say and do is not right. That is not good. If they are going to be children of God, then they walk like children of God––walk like Jesus Christ walked!
Most people do not want to be told who you are in Christ; they want to see your Christian faith demonstrated by the way you live––your obedient conduct. They insist, “Show me!” How do you show them? They need to see your established faith, your example as you remain in the Word of God. As you are rooted and built up in Christ and established in the faith, your faith will be confirmed by genuine evidence in your walk with God.
However, some people are argumentive; they think they are always right and never wrong. Some are self-righteous, but you already have the knowledge of Christ––the knowledge of His grace. If you continuously listen to people who are not rooted and grounded in God’s Word, you can be taken away from Christianity. Be careful. Know God and His Word so that you are not deceived by deceptive words.
Christ is to be the foundation and center of your faith––nothing else.
Faith is like a tender plant, rooted in Christ alone, watered by the Spirit and the Word, strengthened by the winds of adversity and the sunshine of blessing.
