Worldly Philosophies
For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:1-3
Paul warned the church of Colosse against false teachers who attempted to destroy their Christian faith. I believe there are some professors in today’s colleges who manipulate Christians through worldly philosophies in their classes. They are very much like the Gnostics and Judaizers who tried to deceive the believers in Colosse.
Many intellectual professors view themselves as far more superior than their students. They ridicule and put Christian students down. These professors have become so proud of their atheism. In class, they try to influence others into their way of thinking, which is, “There is no God!”
Immature believers who attend liberal colleges become easy targets. I recall a time in history when young, spirit-filled pastors attended German colleges to learn theology. The professors taught them that the Bible had mistakes. God was dead. When these young pastors returned to their own countries, their faith had been completely destroyed. These men who once studied the Word of God became deceived by German theologians.
I believe, a believer who no longer regularly attends church, having limited fellowship and no accountability, can become a candidate for deception. All over America, church attendance has drastically declined. In my conflict for believers, I urge them to remain in the Word of God. If they do not sit in a Bible study, fellowship with other believers, and pray, they will not mature in Christ. They may become targets for deceptive philosophies––just a matter of time.
Your life as a Christian should make nonbelievers question their disbelief in God.
