Maker of Heaven and Earth

“However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says: ‘Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me? says the LORD, Or what is the place of My rest? Has My hand not made all these things?’
Acts 7:48-50

This statement in Scripture gives to us the grand view of God. His greatness as the Creator of all things. He does not dwell in Temples made with human hands. God dwells in heaven, and earth is a mere footstool. Consider these Scriptures that describe our magnificent God:

1 Chronicles 29:11: “Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head over all.”

Psalm 27:4: One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple.

Psalm 95:3-6: For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth; the heights of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; and His hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.

Psalm 145:3, 5: Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable . . . I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works.

In spending a few moments meditating on your great God, what has reading these verses caused you to do? Perhaps it has caused you to spontaneously worship and praise Him. He is worthy of our praise! Enjoy being in His presence at home and in church, as you worship Him.

Worship is the submission of all our nature to God. It is the quickening of conscience by His holiness, the nourishment of the mind with His truth, the purifying of the imagination of His beauty, the opening of the heart to His love, the surrender of the will to His purpose.
