Christ, a Ransom for All
...who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time....
1 Timothy 2:6
Jesus is described as the Mediator of the new covenant (Hebrews 12:24). We are no longer judged according to the Law; we are under the new covenant of grace.
Sadly, I think of the many people in South America who would get on their knees and crawl for miles until their knees bled, just to make penance––to try and find forgiveness and mercy from God. The Scriptures tell us that all people need to do is to confess their sins to Christ, the Mediator, who will forgive them.
Martin Luther, a monk in the 1500s, used to beat himself with a whip and do all other kinds of things for penance, until finally, he found in the book of Romans 1:17, Paul quoted these life-changing words, “...the just shall live by faith...” He discovered justification by faith, not by works. Salvation is by faith in Christ alone. Luther brought about the Reformation, a Protestant movement of grace instead of legalism and exploitation used on parishioners in the Catholic Church. They sold the people indulgences for a price which supposedly absolved them from sin, or, after death, released them from purgatory.
Satan has blinded so many people into thinking they have to do good works or pay their way to heaven, when all they need to do is believe in Jesus Christ by faith. Have you placed your confidence for your salvation in Him? He is the One who gave Himself a ransom and paid the price to rescue you from your captivity and to free you from your sin:
For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant (Hebrews 9:15 NIV).
May God open the eyes of your understanding to the truth and simplicity of the Gospel message.
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
~Acts 4:12~
