God’s Prophet

“This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear.’ ”
Acts 7:37

Stephen brought up a very interesting point in his sermon to the council. Moses spoke of a Prophet. Who was Moses speaking about? He was pointing to the future when Jesus Christ the Messiah would come. He would be Jewish: “The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear...” (Deuteronomy 18:15).

Jesus’ lineage came from the tribe of Judah. Consider this prophetic Scripture that references Jesus’ connection with the tribe of Judah:

Genesis 49:10: The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to Him shall be the obedience of the people.

Therefore, the Jews persecuting Stephen should have known that Jesus was the Son of God, but they refused to hear the truth from Him. Moses is a type of Christ in Scripture. He was rejected, just as Christ was rejected. Again, what did the Hebrew say to Moses, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us?’ ” (Exodus 2:14). The Jews interrogating Stephen had willfully rejected their Messiah––sad.

Later, Paul the Apostle, who is believed to be the writer of the book of Hebrews, wrote a clarifying fact about Jesus Christ: For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood (Hebrews 7:14).

It is a known fact that the Jews kept accurate records of their lineage. They were very proud of their Jewish heritage. It is fascinating to study the lineage of Jesus Christ. Why not make a study of it for yourself today? Then you will realize the infallible truth that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and in your discovery, never harden your heart and reject Him.

“Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”
Revelation 5:5
