Our Heavenly Inheritance

Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father.
Galatians 4:1-2

Paul gave an interesting analogy of a child who lived at home with his rich father. The son was an heir to his father’s riches, but he would not receive his father’s inheritance until he had reached a certain age. In the Roman culture, a father would appoint guardians to manage his child’s affairs until he was at least 25 years old. While a child, the son was as a slave under this guardianship; but after reaching adulthood, he inherited his father’s riches and became master.

When a person responds by faith to accept Jesus Christ, they become an heir––a son or daughter of God. They have a relationship, just as a human Father has with his son or daughter. As heirs of Christ Jesus, believers have inherited the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God dwells in them. God has become their Father, and they have an everlasting love relationship with Him. Christians are no longer regarded as slaves, but they have becomes heirs! We are set free by Jesus Christ:

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together (Romans 8:16-17).

The grace of God is upon our lives. We no longer have to try to keep the Ten Commandments, Sabbath days, or new moons––we have been set free in Christ. Believers in Christ are indeed heirs of the Kingdom of God.

This is all the inheritance I give to my dear family––the religion of Christ will give them one which will make them rich indeed.
