Our Unchangeable Christ

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8

Are you a person who hates change? The seasons change––spring, summer, fall and winter. The time changes, and we have to adjust our clocks––spring forward or fall back. There will be families and friends who come and go from our lives. They move to a new state and to a new home. We all grow older, and our appearances change. Life is fragile, and perhaps drastic changes came into your life when someone you love passed away.

If you have a difficult time with changes, I have good news for you. We live in a world that is always changing, but Jesus never changes. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He does not change! Why is this? Jesus is deity––He is God––so beautiful.

Turn your troubled thoughts to other Bible verses that teach you about your unchangeable God: “For I am the Lord, I do not change...” (Malachi 3:6). James 1:17 declares: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. This speaks of Christ’s immutability––He is not capable of, or susceptible to, change.

It does not matter how the seasons change, or how our lives change, not to mention the untold changes happening in our world today––God never changes. His character never changes, and His mercy, love and grace all remain the same; therefore, He can be relied upon. Nor can He lie, so you can count on His promises. Have you placed your faith steadfastly in a God who never changes? Then you will not be shaken when changes happen.

There are things that do need to change. We sometimes need a change of heart and mind, as well as a change of attitude or perspective. Regeneration––the born-again experience through repentance––can bring about this change. If you are a sinner or a backslidden Christian, are you ready to have your life changed by an unchangeable Savior?

We cannot change God. God is unchangeable. If changes are to be made, they must be made in us.
