Are You Attending Church?

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 10:24-25

Why do we come to church? We come to church to listen and apply God’s Word to our lives. While in the service, God will minister to us spiritually, emotionally or even physically. The mission of the Church is to build up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16). It is important to grow from knowing the ABC’s of Christian doctrine and to further mature. It is the Word of God that will bring believers to maturity:

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment (Hebrews 6:1-2).

Another reason for the Church is so the body of Christ can fellowship with each other. Understand, no man is an island. This is why churches have home fellowships, breakfasts, lunches and retreats. That way, the body of Christ can fellowship and work alongside each other (Acts 2:42). We need constant fellowship and to be constantly feeding upon the Word of God.

In the body of Christ, believers are placed where they are needed the most. I do not believe Christ saves people so they can just become Sunday Christians. We are to be actively engaged in serving the Lord. It is like a puzzle––each believer is placed exactly where they fit. God places us where we can bring Him glory! God will use you if you surrender your heart to Him.

The Church is a place of prayer and worship: ...true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth... (John 4:23). Worship prepares our hearts to receive from the Lord as we study His Word. The word truth means “reality.” God has to be real in your life.

In proportion as a Church is holy, in that proportion will its testimony for Christ be powerful.
