Follow the Faithful
Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.
Hebrews 13:7
Paul gave another great precept––remember those who rule over you... He was not talking about leaders who “lord over” people, but leaders who are spiritually responsible for a person’s life. Such men are pastors and leaders who diligently teach God’s Word. Their example was seen in their good conduct. Church leaders who were faithful in their duties and served the body of Christ by faithfully teaching them God’s Word were to be followed. They should be imitated because they imitate Christ.
It is wise to follow faithful men. You can also follow in the steps of your godly parents and grandparents or a spiritually mature mentor who is pouring God’s Word into your life. They will give you sound counsel according to the Word of God; not their own personal opinions.
Follow their faith, because you can see their genuine faith lived out in their actions. Consider the outcome of their conduct. Their lives are fruitful. They live purposeful lives because they are fulfilling God’s plans, and, in the end, they will receive the reward of eternal life.
Inspirational leaders spur the immature on to be faithful to the call that God has on their lives. They are the next ones to carry the torch of Christianity to the next generation. It is important that they continue teaching God’s Word. Why? God’s Word is a restrainer; it keeps us from sin: Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You (Psalm 119:11). The Word of God guides us and brings joy to our lives: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105). The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes... (Psalms 19:8).
The Word feeds our spirits: “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” The Word of God also brings new life: ...The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. Follow the faithful who follow Christ and give you the Word of Life.
The Lord does not so much look at the work that is done, as at the faithfulness of our hearts in doing it.
