Find Faithful Men
And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
2 Timothy 2:2
Paul entrusted Timothy with his teachings. He was not only to teach the same thing, but to pass on his teachings to others who had the spiritual gift of teaching. The Gospel message was to be handed to people who could be trusted. He was to choose reliable men who could teach others. He had to know their tried and tested characters before trusting them with the treasures of the Word of God.
Do you have a reliable character? Are you a faithful person? Are you someone a pastor can trust to teach? Are you faithfully studying God’s Word? More importantly, can God trust you with His Word? You have to be faithful in the little things before God can trust you with the bigger responsibilities of teaching His Word.
As a Christian, you hear the Gospel message at Calvary Chapel, but what are you going to do with it tomorrow or next week? As I am teaching you systematically through the Bible, do you realize that you are equipped to pass on those teachings to somebody else? It is not necessary to have the gift of teaching to answer people’s questions or relay to them what you have already been taught about the Bible.
In fact, as you faithfully step out by faith to share the Gospel with someone, God has already gone before you, preparing that person’s heart. He begins to open their eyes and ears to understand what you are sharing with them. Imagine, right at that moment, you may lead them to Christ! God opens their hearts, and they come to know Him. Even if they are not ready, you have sown seeds of faith in their hearts that can be watered by someone else. The Lord has trusted you with the Gospel, and He will bless you as you share His message with those who need to hear.
Men are going to heaven or hell, and it is time that we come to close grips with them about this all-important matter. God help us to do so!
