The Message of God
...the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, “Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built.” ’ ”
Haggai 1:1-2
Haggai’s message was spoken with complete authority; it was given to him from the Lord to address those in leadership. God wanted to awaken His people––to get their full attention. In a similar way, leaders in churches have a great responsibility, both men and women; they need to have an ear to hear what God is saying to them as they lead in any capacity in their fellowships.
As we study the Old Testament, we often find this common phrase, the word of the Lord came.... Notice the importance of the word of the Lord in the life of the prophet. Any message a prophet gave to God’s people was to always to benefit them spiritually. In authority, the Lord gave them a rebuke, correction, direction, or even words of comfort. God’s Word always led His people back into a right relationship with Him.
I love to hear what God is saying to my heart through His Word. I desire to be led by God’s direction and receive His wisdom for the decisions I need to make for my home, the church, and for the congregation. The Lord faithfully gives me His message for the people so they can grow spiritually.
As you spend time reading your Bible, you will recognize the voice of God speaking to your own heart through the Scriptures. The Lord will lead, guide, and give you wisdom for your life. When someone approaches you with questions about your faith, you will be able to open your Bible and show them exactly what God’s Word says about Christ, salvation, and their need for Him.
No spiritual discipline is more important than the intake of God’s Word. Nothing can substitute for it. There simply is no healthy Christian life apart from a diet of the milk and meat of Scripture.
