Sex and Singleness
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor....
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4
If you are single, the Bible has instructions on the way to handle your vessel (your body) in sanctification and honor, which means a life that is set apart for God in holiness. Those who are single must be controlled by the Holy Spirit to live a life of purity. Understand what God’s Word says:
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body ... your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit ... and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit... (1 Corinthians 6:18-20).
As a Christian, if you are already in a relationship and having sex with your boyfriend or girlfriend, then understand you are in sin, and you need to stop. God cannot bless the relationship. When young people come to the chapel and ask to be married, if they are sleeping together, they are asked to separate for six months and pray to see if God really wants them to be together or not.
If you are single, and you desire a girlfriend or a boyfriend, then pray and make sure the relationship is Christ centered. As a boyfriend, are you praying and reading the Bible with your girlfriend? Do you set healthy boundaries so you are not alone together? One way to help remain pure is to date in group settings with other friends. Remain accountable, because your relationship cannot be based on your fleshly desires.
Also make sure you are not unequally yoked, or you will be heading for trouble. God’s Word will protect you from experiencing the pain of being with someone who is not walking with Christ:
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. ... And what communion has light with darkness? ... Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? (2 Corinthians 6:14-15).
You need a Spirit-filled spouse to have a successful marriage.
Don’t be swayed by the false values and goals of this world, but put Christ and his will first in everything you do.
