Walk in Newness of Life

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Ephesians 4:17-19

What is a Christian to be like? Paul the Apostle started these verses with the word therefore. This word takes us back to what he had already explained to the Ephesians. Believers should already know who they are in Christ. It was etched in their memories during the first three chapters of the book of Ephesians. Now, in their walk in Christ, they must put the Word of God into practice.

In Romans 6:4, Paul used the symbolism seen in baptism to teach believers how they should walk in newness of life:

Therefore we were buried with Him [Christ] through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

What is so incredible is that Christ has forgiven you of your sin and has given you a clean slate. You are beginning a new life in Christ––everything is brand new: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). That fact should give you such joy! From the time you accept Christ, there has to be a change in your conduct––in your manner of living. Can others see a change in you?

Are you willing to change because God wants to use your life? There are some things still in your life that need to go. God will share with you in His Word what needs to change. Obey His Word and walk in newness of life.

We are blood-secured, delivered from the enemy’s power, and raised up into newness of life in God.
