The Light Christ Brings

For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”
Ephesians 5:12-14

Know this: The Scriptures teach us that it is shameful to sit with people and boast about the sinful things we used to do in the past. Before Christ, we were in spiritual darkness and did things that were so shameful. Sin separates us from a holy God, and that path we were on was leading us to an eternity without God. This is why Jesus Christ came and died on the Cross: For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures... (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

From God’s dwelling place, He saw humanity––the people He created, suffering and dying in a terrible, deep spiritual darkness. They were created to live forever and not to die; but once Adam and Eve sinned, physical and spiritual death came (Genesis 3). Again, that is why God sent His Son: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

When Jesus came, He gave us Light: “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned” (Matthew 4:16). When we were convicted of sin, we repented and were given the light of life: The Word [Jesus] gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone (John 1:4 NLT). Jesus is Creator. He brought light to everyone. Nobody can hide from God; the light exposes the darkness.

Are you living in the shadows of your sin? Why not come to Christ? He is the Light who can make the shadows flee and give you eternal life.

We prefer the shadows where we feel safe over the light which exposes us and causes us to say “‘Woe is me!’”
