God Will Be With You
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.
Isaiah 43:2
When Christians are tested, it should reveal their genuine faith in Christ. As believers, when we go through floods of water or the fire, another term for trials, we shall not drown in them or be completely burned. God has His reasons for allowing trials in our lives. They help to mature us in our faith. It is through our trials that we learn to trust in God. We experience His strength and His faithfulness, and we grow in Christ. God will allow our lives to be tested, but He will always be with us in the trial. That is so comforting to hear.
In the Bible, Daniel’s friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego were placed in a difficult situation where their faith was tested. As Jews, they worshipped only Jehovah (Exodus 20:3-5). When King Nebuchadnezzar set up a golden image to worship, they refused to bow down to it. As punishment, they were to be cast into the midst of a burning, fiery furnace (Daniel 3:8-13). King Nebuchadnezzar challenged their faith in their God: “…who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?” (Daniel 3:15).
After Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego declared their confident and unwavering faith in their God to King Nebuchadnezzar, they were thrown into the furnace (Daniel 3:19-23). But who was with them? The Lord! He was with them in the fire. Astonished, King Nebuchadnezzar said: “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God” (Daniel 3:25). As servants of the Most High God, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego were asked to come out of the fire. God delivered His servants who had placed their trust in Him (Daniel 3:28).
God will walk with you when you go through the fire. It is a sure promise of God: “...I will be with you...” At times, Christians will ask God to help them out of the fire, but it is in the midst of the fire that they are being refined––perfected. God is teaching you lessons of faith as you walk through the fire.
Fiery trials make golden Christians.
