A Description of Ungodliness

...unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal....
2 Timothy 3:2-4

In the Last Days, there will be an increase of thankless, ungrateful people. If only they could stop and reflect on what they have been given. They never thank God for anything, yet He has provided the very roof over their heads! Everything they have––food, clothing, car and home––came from the Lord.

Ungodliness will be manifested through people living an unholy, profane life. The word unholy means “to be without holiness” or “void of piety.” People who are unholy have a love for everything that is unholy. They refuse to be identified with God, who is holy.  In rebellion, they want nothing to do with living a life of holiness; instead, they follow the path of wickedness.

Within families there is a natural love between parents and children, but not so in the Last Days. There will be a lack of natural affection, causing an awkward, unsociable disposition in the home. Add an unforgiving heart, where godless people refuse to make peace. When there is unforgiveness, there is never peace, not until there is forgiveness.

In the Last Days, people’s reputations will be destroy because of slanderers. The word slanderer means “false accuser.” Evil people will act in the same way as the devil. Satan, who opposes God, is called “an accuser of the brethren” (Revelation 12:10-11). So they will be just like him!  Among the community, men will behave without self-control. They are unrestrained and easily lose control of themselves. We will live among the brutal. The word brutal describes a person who has forgotten God as their Creator, and, as a result, they become untamed. They resemble lions––wild, savage and fierce.

When I studied the list of these words that describe the ungodly, I could not help but think, Lord, please convict me of any of these things in my life. What about yourself? Are you convicted by any of these ungodly behaviors?

One compromise here, another there and soon enough the so-called Christian and the man in the world look the same.
