Are You Lacking Wisdom?
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
James 1:5-8
Christians need God’s wisdom to live in this fallen world. Understand, the natural man does not have the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 2:14), but all we need to do is ask God to give us His wisdom. I believe that it is a good practice for Christians to read systematically through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. In the morning, it would be good to include one Proverb, and at night, a Psalm. King Solomon wrote over 3,000 proverbs of wisdom, which can help us gain wisdom for any day. A psalm will calm and comfort our hearts before we lay our heads down to sleep.
Sadly, some Christians fail to ask God for His wisdom when they have to make difficult decisions. It can cause such heartache when they do not bring God into the equation. For instance, if someone does not pray about a financial decision, they could get into financial trouble, purchasing something they should not have bought.
Often times, without first praying for wisdom, believers will lack peace, and their emotions become tossed to and fro about the decision they made without inquiring of God. We all need to pray and inquire of God when making important decisions for our lives. When we do, God will give us the peace that passes understanding, and we will remain in the center of His will.
Why should we always first ask wisdom of God? He knows what is best for our lives, so pray by faith, and God will answer. Do not get ahead of God. Sometimes you must wait for God to give you the wisdom you need, but God will bless you abundantly with His wisdom. God alone is all wise (Jude 25).
Wisdom is not the growth of human genius.
It must be sought from above.
