Me, Myself and I
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money....
2 Timothy 3:2
Paul recorded the change in people’s attitudes and behaviors that will make the Last Days extremely perilous. You have to pray for your children and grandchildren in these evil times. They have to be aware of the times in which they live so they can walk in wisdom: Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV).
First we see that men will be lovers of themselves. In the Last Days, mankind’s selfishness will be evident. Self is all important to most people. There will be no thought for what others are going through. People will be self-lovers––taking care of number one––me, myself and I.
Those who love themselves are very obsessed with the way they look. They are constantly looking at themselves in the mirror. From the minute they wake up, it is all about them. I ask you, how many times a day do you look in the mirror at yourself? Are you constantly thinking about yourself throughout the day, or are your thoughts about the needs of others?
The second noticeable thing about people in the Last Days is they are lovers of money. There is nothing wrong with being blessed financially, but the problem comes when money possesses them! There are people who will continue to buy, but they are never satisfied. They have houses, cars, boats and all they ever wanted, but they still feel empty.
Think of how many millionaires and billionaires have worked all their lives, only to die and leave everything behind for someone else to spend. Some people are poor because they cannot handle money; they overspend and get themselves into debt. Credit cards are such a snare. Once you are in debt, it is very hard to pay off the interest.
Instead of being obsessed with money and spending, why not use money for good. Do not be selfish and spend all your money on yourself––help others who genuinely need it.
When Christ’s love fills our hearts, it puts selfishness on the run.
