Perilous Times
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come....
2 Timothy 3:1
In preparing Timothy for what lay ahead, Paul had also prepared us. We have to be equipped spiritually to live our lives in perilous times. The word perilous means “Hard to bear, painful, grievous, troublesome, and dangerous.” We have to expect to live in desperate times.
We are living on God’s timetable––within His prophetical calendar. This current time period is known as the Last Days. In Hebrews 1:1-2, we are able to glimpse at His prophetic calendar which mentions the Last Days:
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son [Jesus Christ], whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds....
The technical term for the time we are living in is also called the Church Age. What will happen during this period of history? God will complete His purposes, which includes His purpose for the Church. The Church Age will end with the Rapture.
Interestingly, both New and Old Testaments point to a finality––an “End of the Ages.” Bible Hub, Topical Encyclopedia explains:
The term "End of the Ages" is a biblical concept that refers to the culmination of God's redemptive plan and the consummation of history as we know it. This concept is deeply rooted in both the Old and New Testaments, where it is associated with the fulfillment of prophecy, the return of Jesus Christ, and the establishment of God's eternal kingdom.
Are you ready for the next prophetical event on the calendar––the Rapture of the Church? It is important to do all you can for Christ while you wait patiently for His return.
My hope does not rest in the affairs of this world.
It rests in Christ who is coming again.
