Walking in the Light
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Ephesians 4:17-19
Paul explained that before we came to Christ, we had the same testimony as the Gentiles¬¬––heathens. We use to exhibit the same behavior as them. In the Greek language, the word to walk means to “conduct.” It refers to the way a person acts in the presence of other people. Before Christ, we walked in darkness, lost without hope and without God in this world. We pursued every fleshly desire. As Christians, we should be ashamed of the things we used to do and openly renounce them.
Every weekend, many people who do not know Christ go out to pursue their fleshly desires. On Monday morning; they pay the consequences. Some people try to gratify their flesh every night! They are dissatisfied and empty in their lives.
Christians are transformed because of their faith in Jesus Christ. No longer do they walk in the darkness. Jesus has given them light: “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12). As they submit their lives to Christ, they walk according to the Spirit––dominated and ruled by the Spirit of God. A Christian’s life is blessed by the Lord––fully and completely.
Every person has been given a free will. Every day we have a choice to make––to walk in the flesh or the Spirit. Romans 8:1 tells us: There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Are you walking in the light or in the darkness?
Are we going through life with our eyes closed to the light because we love darkness? Rise up to obey the Light and more light will flood into our lives. We have been reborn to walk in light.
