Father’s Day
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6
Today is Father’s Day, and children look for ways to honor them. These dedicated men have sacrificed and worked hard to give their children a good future. Godly fathers have sought the Lord for wisdom, as they do their best to be the spiritual leaders of their homes. They have an invaluable role in the spiritual upbringing of their children. Devoted fathers have spent endless hours shaping and molding their young children’s characters by training them in the ways of the Lord.
Children need to be taught godly principles when they are young. I am sure you have noticed, children mimic your actions and words. They need to see and follow your godly example. Then, as they grow older, they will have the wisdom and strength to face worldly peer pressure. They will know where to turn for help––God’s Word.
Fathers who have provoked children by harsh discipline, anger, and demeaning language that have caused them pain, need to turn to the Lord in repentance and humble themselves before their children, asking them for forgiveness. Fathers are to always love and nurture their children (Ephesians 6:4), realizing God has entrusted his children into their care:
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate (Psalm 127:3-5).
Children long to spend time with their dads. They always seek their father’s attention. Do you take time to play with your children? Are you a part of their lives? Are you making lasting memories with them? Children grow up very quickly; before you know it, they are adults. What you pour into their lives now while they are young, will be lasting. Your children will grow up and appreciate all you have done for them.
The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.
