Father’s Day
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
Psalm 127:3-5
For a father to have children is a blessing from God. A wise father will take time to mold and shape his children’s lives so that they become like arrows, able to fight against the enemy. As the spiritual leader in your home, make sure your children grow to learn how to fight the good fight––spiritual warfare.
This begins by teaching them who God is. David knew God intimately and said of Him: Blessed be the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle (Psalm 144:1). Your children must learn to depend on God their Rock. They need to learn to stand on their own two feet with the Lord. It is true that fathers often fail their children, but God never will. Despite your human failings, children are often resilient; they will still love, forgive and overlook your faults and failings.
As a father, become the spiritual leader of your home. Psalm 128:3-4 describes the rewards of a home governed by a righteous man: Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table…thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.
As a father, realize days, months and years go by very quickly. Make time for your children. Play with them and be involved in their sports and activities. Children grow fast. Make memories––go camping and fishing with them. You only have one life to live, so be the best father you can be! God has given valuable time to you to be a godly influence in the lives of your sons, daughters, and grandchildren.
A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society.
