Co-workers in the Ministry
...according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Ephesians 4:16
Church ministries constantly need help. Finding out what your spiritual gifts and natural talents are and how to use them is one way to help. Have you ever prayed about becoming a Sunday school teacher? Do you have a heart for missions? What about becoming a greeter or an usher? There are so many different areas of ministry for a person to prayerfully consider. Through prayer, seek God and ask Him where He wants you to be. He will direct you.
When entering into ministry, a person needs to have a servant’s heart. They must not expect to be ruling over people. I am always amazed to see people arrive at 6:00 am Sunday morning to serve in the parking lot. It is one of the most hectic ministries. These believers are outside every morning, faithfully directing lines of traffic and parking cars––rain or shine––all because God has led them and called them to freely serve. Some Christians do not wake up in the spirit. When they arrive at the parking lot, they are operating under the influence of the flesh (Galatians 5:16-17) and are not nice to the ushers whose hearts are only to serve them.
There are men who meet to pray at 6:00 am in the morning. Sunday school teachers arrive to set up classrooms. They have spent hours during the week praying and preparing for their lessons. They desire that our children are taught correctly. Understand, the church doors are not just opened, lights turned on, a random bunch of musicians are asked on stage and the pulpit quickly set up so I can share whatever I want.
It takes a lot of preparation and prayer in every single area of ministry. God is doing a great work at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs; He is moving among us. Pray about becoming co-workers with us; this way, God can use your life tremendously in the work of the ministry with us.
The church that is soundly rooted cannot be destroyed, but nothing can save a church whose root is dried up. No stimulation, no advertising campaigns, no gifts of money and no beautiful edifice can bring back to life the rootless tree.
