Hearing the Voice of God

Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him; and the people feared the presence of the LORD.
Haggai 1:12

God was at work among the remnant of Israel. These Jews now listened to the words of Haggai and began to obey the voice of the Lord their God. They determined to build the house of God. We see them coming back into a right relationship with Him. Once more, they began to reverence God as they became aware of His presence among them.

What is your response to God’s voice? Do you turn a deaf ear, or do you repent, realizing just how far you have fallen away from having a right relationship with Him? Do you reverence the Lord and value His Word? Is it precious to you? Are you coming to the House of God with an eagerness to hear what He has to say to you? King David had a thirst for God. His relationship with Him was a priority; He loved to be in His temple:

One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple (Psalm 27:4).

As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God (Psalm 42:1-2).

In these difficult days, the Word of God should be thought of as precious. It touches and changes our hearts. Do not neglect to coming to church, listen to the message taught by the messenger––and go away changed.

The Christian will desire to see the beauty of God in his house, that his soul might be ravished in the excellency of the object, and that the highest powers of his soul, his understanding, will, and affections might be fully satisfied, that he might have full contentment.
