Answered Prayer

So, when he [Peter] had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying. And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer. When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate. But they said to her, “You are beside yourself!” Yet she kept insisting that it was so. So they said, “It is his angel.”
Acts 12:12-15

In Mary’s house, believers gathered together to have a prayer meeting for Peter. Mary was the mother of John whose surname was Mark. Who was this person called John Mark? Interestingly, John Mark wrote one of the four Gospels––the Gospel of Mark. His uncle was Barnabas. So we now have a good picture of a family who faithfully served the Lord.

Those praying for Peter’s release from prison had a shock coming to them! Suddenly, Peter had miraculously arrived at the home of Mary and was knocking at the door. Rhoda went to open the gate, but instantly recognized the voice of Peter. The girl was so surprised, she could hardly believe it! She was thinking to herself, Wait a minute! We are praying for Peter! How can he be outside? But there he was! She was so glad. In her excitement, she failed to open the door and let Peter in; instead, she turned around and hurried to tell the others the good news.

Rhoda excitedly announced to everyone, “Peter is outside!” Even though those who had gathered had been praying for him, they could not bring themselves to believe her surprised announcement. Instead, they responded, “You are crazy, girl!” Rhoda insisted, “Really, Peter’s at the door!” The family of believers once again dismissed her words, saying, “It is his angel––a ghost! You are seeing things. Nobody is outside.” Yet there stood Peter, knocking.

God answers prayer, so keep praying!
