God Controls Nature

“Therefore the heavens above you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit. For I called for a drought on the land and the mountains, on the grain and the new wine and the oil, on whatever the ground brings forth, on men and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.”
Haggai 1:10-11

By using nature, God got the attention of His people; they needed to consider their ways––to examine their lives’ priorities. There had been no rain. The drought caused the lack of needed produce––grain, grapes on the vines, and oil. How could they feed their livestock and nourish themselves? The cause of the drought was a direct consequence of their disobedience.

We have seen in California, severe droughts and, and mainly in the central plains, tornadoes and hurricanes. Extreme weather in late May caused Colorado to experience heavy snow, and deadly heat waves were unexpected on the east coast. The change in weather is not because the atmosphere is suddenly changing. Who is in charge of the weather? God is! I believe God is trying to get our attention through these occurrences.

The Lord is speaking loud and clear to all the nations of the world! Yet the world is not listening––even Israel is not listening. One day, they shall all have to listen! God is going to continue to do this until He sees true repentance for the corruption and sin in nations. He desires obedience. Yet nations and individuals continually fail to listen to what God has to say to them in His Word.

The prophecy given to Haggai, if taken seriously, can cause a nation or a person to examine their ways. The exhortation can bring them to a place of repentance for neglecting to put Him first. May God speak to your heart personally. If your relationship with Christ has grown cold, then ask Him to help you fall in love with Him all over again. He is not just the One who controls nature, but He can bring calm to the storms of life you face.

“Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
~Matthew 8:27~
