God Can Blow Wealth Away
Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,” says the LORD. “You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the LORD of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house.”
Haggai 1:7-9
The Lord repeated His strong exhortation to His people––“Consider your ways!” If only they would repent and obediently go to the mountains to get timber to rebuild the Temple! He would be glorified, and they would praise Him for His faithful provision in the land.
However, it was not by coincidence that their finances had blown away. It was the Lord bringing His judgment upon them. Through the prophet Haggai, He clearly gave them the reason for their declining financial problems they faced. Only when they fully obeyed His voice could God bless them. All they needed to do was repent and do what was right.
Even though this prophecy is found in the Old Testament, it is for every one of us today! “Consider your ways!” How many people’s bank accounts have been drained because God is trying to get their attention? If this is the case, why not begin to get close to the heart of God, to hear His voice? Be open to what He has to tell you through the Scriptures. Ask Him to please forgive you for placing Him last, instead of first.
God can help you rearrange your priorities. His intent is to bless your life; He is more than able to restore your finances. Every day, place God first by developing an intimate friendship with Him. Then you will be ready for whatever God has planned for your life.
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
