Having Purpose of Heart
Then news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch. When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord. For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.
Acts 11:22-24
The amazing work of God happening in Antioch reached the ears of those in the church in Jerusalem. Imagine them saying, “Did you hear about those from among us who left to go to Antioch to preach the Gospel? God has used them to start a new work. There are so many people who are getting saved! Can you believe it?” The believers in Jerusalem were so happy, and they began rejoicing!
As a result, the Church decided to send Barnabas to Antioch. Do you remember Barnabas? He was a Hellenized Jew who became a Christian and sold his property and gave the proceeds to those in need (Acts 4:36-37). He was very wealthy and helped the poor. He was an encourager and had befriended Saul and validated his conversion to Christ (Acts 9:26-27). Barnabas was known to be a good man, a disciple of Christ who was full of the Holy Spirit and faith. He encouraged the believers in Antioch with purpose of heart to follow Christ.
Life has such purpose when you become a follower of Christ. All your natural talents and God-given gifts are at His disposal to use for His glory. It is a life with an eternal purpose––a life of influence that touches the lives of others to help lead them to Christ. The Christian life is an exciting journey. Although difficulties and trials are sure to come, a Christian would have it no other way. Why? They have a hope! Something to look forward to––heaven and eternal life. Christians hold lightly to the things of this earth, because this is not their home. Do you have a life that is filled with purpose? If you feel empty and are struggling to find purpose for your life, find Christ!
My one purpose in life is to help people find a personal relationship with God, which, I believe, comes through knowing Christ.
