Christ’s Ascension
Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”
Acts 1:9-11
According to the Scriptures, Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day. He appeared to His Disciples and then showed Himself to over 500 other followers:
...He [Jesus] was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep [died]. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me [Paul] also, as by one born out of due time (1 Corinthians 15:5-8).
After Jesus’ death on the Cross, He first descended, and then He ascended. Ephesian 4:7-10 explains what happened during that time:
But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts [spiritual gifts] to men.” (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) (Ephesians 4:7-10)
After Jesus’ Resurrection, he remained on earth for 40 days before He was taken up into heaven. Angels gave a promise about His Second Coming. After another 10 days, the Day of Pentecost came when the Holy Spirit fell upon 120 of Jesus’ disciples, who were gathered in an upper room, praying in one accord. Be comforted, Jesus will come again!
...so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
