The Hope of the Resurrection
“And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, He has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the sure mercies of David.’ Therefore He also says in another Psalm: ‘You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.’ ”
Acts 13:34-35
Notice the in-depth knowledge Paul had of the Scriptures. He was able to quote Scripture after Scripture showing the fulfillment concerning Christ’s death and Resurrection. The Gospel message Paul preached gave hope. King David had hope in eternal life: My flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption (Psalm 16:9-10). David had hope for his soul. It would not remain in Sheol––the underworld, the place to which people descend after death. Why? The Holy One, God’s Only Son, would not see corruption––He would conquer death.
King David is still in his tomb today! You can find Jesus’ bones, but not Jesus. He is risen! I have been to Jesus’ tomb in Israel, and I can attest to you, He is not there! Do you fear death? Place your faith and trust in Jesus, the Holy One who rose from the dead. Rest in hope:
Therefore gird up the loins of your mind [minds that are alert], be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:13).
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:3-5).
When death and fear come knocking at your door, combat them both with the hope of the Resurrection.
The resurrection of Jesus changes the face of death for all His people. Death is no longer a prison, but a passage into God’s presence.
