Independence Day

...for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm.
Jonah 4:2

Nineveh was a wicked city, and no doubt Jonah felt that the Assyrians get what was coming to them––God’s judgment. He resisted God’s call to give them a message of repentance. Jonah did not want them to have the opportunity to receive the grace and mercy of God, so he fled from God’s presence.

Jonah took a ship in a different direction (Jonah 1:3), but God intercepted him with a sudden storm, a prophet thrown overboard, and a great fish that swallowed him and then spat him out where he needed to be. Jonah walked the length of the city, preaching a very short message––“repent or burn!” (Jonah 3:4). What happened? The people repented! They were saved from God’s judgment: ...God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it (Jonah 3:10).

America is guilty of great wickedness. We slaughter the unborn for profit. Some state laws use language that could deny life to babies up to 28 days after birth. We have allowed a whole month to celebrate unnatural, sexual pride––sin. Just like Nineveh, we are deserving of God’s judgment.

America is still fighting for its independence. Recently, our government was willing to relinquish our independent health decisions. America’s sovereignty would be given to the World Health Organization in the case of an international health event. Imagine, they could declare a pandemic and shut down Americans––isolate them in their homes––unthinkable!

Our borders are wide open. Mothers in America cannot get formula to feed their babies. Something is wrong––sinister. Countless men and women have fought to keep America free. Spiritually, we need to repent of our wickedness, so that God would relent from His judgment and continue to shed His mercy and grace on America.

The time has come to turn to God and reassert our trust in Him for the healing of America - our country is in need and ready for a spiritual renewal.
