Idle Talkers and Deceivers

For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.
Titus 1:10-11

Paul exposed to Titus the great dangers of false teachers infiltrating the churches. Certain Jews were trying to deceive Christians by subverting the truth of God’s Word. Titus had the authority to put a stop to it. Christian doctrine is very important. The best way he could combat deception was to teach sound doctrine and expose them for what they were––deceivers.

Paul warned Titus because, if left unchecked, these false teachers had the ability to undermine the Gospel message and lead astray entire families. Notice how Paul exposed their hidden motives. Using deception, they were only interested in monetary gain. They had no real concern or love for people.

There are so-called pastors and evangelists who are just like that. All they are interested in is the mighty dollar. They are calculated crooks who rob people in churches. God will hold them accountable! Other people come to church under the pretense of worshiping God, but they start to ask people in the congregation for financial help. Be careful. They will go from person to person taking advantage of people’s kindness.

I encourage you to read through the Bible on your own. Study the history behind each book and look for key doctrines. As you begin to learn Christian doctrine, you will become rooted and grounded in the Word of God and understand what you believe. When someone starts talking to you about the Scriptures, and you discern something is not quite right, the truth of God’s Word will guard your heart, and you will not become a victim of deception.

The underlying principle of all Satan’s tactics is deception. He is a crafty and clever camouflager.
