A Blameless Man

...if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.
Titus 1:6

Paul conveyed to Timothy the prerequisites when appointing an elder. First, they had to be blameless. There was a moral obligation. I have always told leaders, “To whom much is given; much is required.” An elder should be a godly man who has his home in order. Just as there must be order in the church, there is to be order in the home––the husband of one wife, having faithful children. His children are to be obedient, in submission to their father’s leadership, and not rebellious.

What does the word blameless mean? The word blameless means “that cannot be called to account,” “unreprovable,” or “unaccused.” In other words, no one can point a finger at an elder’s life. No one can find any fault in them. The word blameless also implies, not merely a person’s acquittal, but the absence of any charge or accusation against them. Titus was to pray and look for men who had these qualifications as an elder.

Blameless men are often tried and tested. Such was the case of Job, whom God allowed Satan to test:

...the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?” (Job 1:8-9).

Job’s character was under attack. The Lord described him as blameless, which meant “complete,”  “morally innocent,” or “having integrity.” Has your character come into question? Let others defend your character, and do not defend yourself. In the end, God will defend you!

Once tried and tested, God will use your life to the fullest.

If I had 300 men who feared nothing but God, hated nothing but sin, and were determined to know nothing among men but Jesus Christ and Him crucified, I would set the world on fire.
