The Chosen

...He [Jesus] through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen....
Acts 1:2

The Apostles did not choose Jesus Christ first; He chose them! Just like Jesus chose you! In the book of Ephesians, we can learn beautiful, theological terms, such as election and predestination:

...just as He [God] chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace... (Ephesians 1:4-5).

The word chosen in the Greek language means “to select,” “to make a choice,” or “to choose out.” Think about it. Out of millions of people dwelling on earth, God chose you simply because He loves you! Perhaps you are thinking, Why didn’t God choose me? If you accept Jesus by faith and repent of your sins, then you become one of God’s chosen!

God gave commands to His chosen Apostles. Although not recorded in Acts 1:2, we find Jesus’ commands to them in Matthew 28:19-22:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

What are the two greatest commandments Jesus has given to us?

“ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’ ” (Matthew 22:37-39).

As a chosen disciple of God, how are you fulfilling these commandments daily in your Christian life?

You did not choose Me [Jesus], but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit....
~John 15:16~
