The Gift of Healings
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:7-10
In the book of Acts, we read accounts of miraculous healings. Therefore, it is necessary to have a good biblical understanding about the gift of healings. There are 21 gifts of the Holy Spirit active in the Church today. I believe, the gift of healings, when used, has the temptation to give more glory to man than to God. Some well-known TV evangelists receive all the praise, when it is God who heals. He deserves all the glory.
I believe in healing 100%, but it has its place in the body of Christ. The Scriptures teach us that if someone is sick, then they are to ask the elders for prayer, and, if God desires, He will make them well:
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up... (James 5:14-15).
I personally will not lay hands on people in the main service. Satan, through pride, can destroy a ministry. I am greatly aware of that, so we have pastors anointing people with oil and praying over them. In fact, I have witnessed that, as the Word of God is being taught, people are healed physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I am very leery of stories. I will ask a person to show me Scriptures to back up their experiences. That way they do not get confused. Understand, any experience needs to be scriptural; then it can be accepted. If it is not scriptural, then an experience can also be a deception. Realize, Satan can turn himself into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14).
Miracles, in both the Old and New Testaments, had only one main purpose, and that was to reveal God.
