The Dominion of the Law

Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?
Romans 7:1

Paul spoke with his brethren, those who knew the Law––the Jews. Paul understood a believer in Christ was no longer bound by the Law. Remember, when God gave the Law, it pointed everyone to Jesus Christ. The Jews could not keep the Law, the Ten Commandments, and neither could anybody else; no one could reach this high standard of perfection.

The book of Romans spoke about many theological issues. Paul was taught by Gamaliel, one of the greatest theologians of his time. Paul wrote 14 theological letters that brought balance to the New Testament. They fit perfectly with the Gospels and all the other books of the Bible. It is important to understand the book of Romans because then you will understand all the other books Paul has written. Christians need to study doctrine, as these subjects relate to the life of the believer, such as: the doctrine of Christ, the doctrine of atonement, and the doctrine of sin.

In Romans 1-2, Paul covered the nature of sin and the wrath of God. In Romans 3-4, we learn that we are justified by faith in Jesus Christ as we place our faith in Him. Paul also explained about the first and second Adam (Romans 5:12-21). In Romans 6:12-23, Paul taught how sin should no longer govern our mortal body-––sin cannot rule––whereas Romans 7 will go on to tell us how we are freed from the Law.

Understand, if you say, “I am a child of God,” and sin still rules over your life, then you are lying to yourself. There is no possible way. A true child of God who walks in the light cannot get away with sin. If you are a genuine son or daughter of God, He will chasten and correct you (Hebrews 12:3-11). If you are not a son or daughter, then He cannot correct you. If you are in darkness, you are lost, and Satan rules over your life. It is depressing to be a slave of sin—a slave of Satan. Come to Christ, come to the Light, and He will save you!

I may know all the doctrines of the Bible, but unless I know Christ, there is not one of them that can save me.
