The Inspired Word of God
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
These are very important verses in the Bible! God enabled the apostles and the prophets to write the Bible through the power of the Holy Spirit. In all there are 66 books––39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. The Word of God is inspired, which means the Holy Spirit inspired men to write the books of the Bible. When we read that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, it literally means “God breathed.”
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).
The Bible is not like any other book. The words are literally living! This is why you need to value your Bible. Keep it close to your heart. Sit down and treasure reading it. Whatever opportunity you have, read the Word of God and brainwash yourself with it. The Word of God is so valuable to you!
The Word of God will reprove you. This means it will bring conviction to your life. In turn, conviction will lead you to repentance and a change of heart. Conviction will draw you to the Cross, not away from the Cross. Also the Word will correct you and set things right in your life. It brings instruction in righteousness––a disciplined life that will cause you to think and act in accordance with God's perfect will.
How does God’s Word make you complete? The word complete means “perfect.” However, we know we are not perfect until we reach heaven, but in this sense, it means you have been given special aptitudes for serving the Lord. You are equipped spiritually for every good work and brought to a place of Christian maturity.
The more of God’s Word you know and love,
the more of God’s Spirit you will experience.
