Walk as Children of the Light
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:8-10
As Paul the Apostle neared the conclusion of his short epistle, he continued to turn our attention to our Christian walk––walking in the light. We are to separate ourselves from the darkness––sin. People are either walking in light or darkness, but they cannot do both. Consider the truth of God’s Word spoken by the Apostle John:
...God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:5-7).
That is a true statement. There can be no misunderstanding of what is plainly said in the Scriptures. If we are making a profession of Christianity, but live a life in contradiction to the Word of God, in darkness, we lie. Again, Christians need to practice what they preach. We are not to walk in darkness: And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them (Ephesians 5:11). Light always exposes the darkness. Light is greater than darkness!
We are children of the Light; no longer should we be walking in darkness. Christ shines in us and through us. Jesus said in John 8:12: “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Darkness represents the ignorance, error and evil found in this world. Light represents goodness, truth and righteousness that come from the Lord. Where do you stand, in the light or in the darkness?
Are we going through life with our eyes closed to the light because we love darkness? Rise up to obey the Light and more light will flood into our lives. We have been reborn to walk in light.
