Mercy Triumphs Over Judgment

So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
James 2:12-13

Who stands to be judged as under the law? It is the non-believer, because they have refused to receive God’s grace. When they stand before the judgment seat of God, they will be judged for their sins according to the law:

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. ...  And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books (Revelation 20:11-12 NIV).

What is the law of liberty? It is God’s grace that has been freely bestowed upon us. This work of grace is offered to us through God’s Son, Jesus Christ: For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ (John 1:17). This amazing grace has been made available to all people: For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people (Titus 2:11 NIV).

What does God’s grace help us to do? It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age... (Titus 2:12 NIV).

Take an examination of your life today. If you were to die and stand before God, would you stand before Him at the White Throne Judgment, or would you stand before Him because you have received His grace and mercy through Christ? If you are lacking God’s mercy, and are in need of His grace, why not call on the name of the Lord and be saved? For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).

God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith.
~Romans 3:25 NIV~
