Will You Choose Life or Death?
“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:38
Think about these two comparisons. In the Old Testament, Moses taught the people the Law of God. While he went to Mount Sinai to speak with the Lord, the people rebelled and decided to melt down their golden earrings to make a golden calf to worship. When Moses returned, he challenged them. Those who were on the Lord’s side must come to him. That day, thousands chose foolishly, and in judgment, 3,000 of them were killed (Exodus 32:25-28).
In the New Testament, the complete opposite happened. As the Gospel was preached boldly by the Apostle Peter, the Holy Spirit was poured out mightily, and 3,000 men were greatly convicted. The conviction of Holy Spirit caused these men to repent and to cry out and be saved. That day, 3,000 souls received eternal life (Acts 2:37-41).
In Deuteronomy 30:15, God’s people were warned: “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil....” They could choose a life of obedience or disobedience, but each decision had consequences. Our daily lives are full of choices, but the most important choice we shall ever make is to accept or reject Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
God has given each person a free will. Think about the gift of eternal life God has made available to you through His grace:
For if by the one man’s offense [Adam’s sin] many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many (Romans 5:15).
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).
What will you choose? Will you repent of your sin and accept God’s gift of salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Your choice will either result in eternal life or eternal death.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
~Romans 8:2~
